• Keep your distance. Maintain at least two car lengths between your vehicle and the one in front of you. This distance will give you time to react calmly if the car ahead begins to skid.
• Clear leaves of your car. Before you start driving, it’s a good idea to scrape away any wet leaves stuck to your car’s roof or windshield so they won’t blow under your tires.
• Check your tires. If you anticipate driving on wet, leaf-covered road, make sure your tires are in good condition. You can check your tire’s tread depth with the “penny test.” Place a penny into your tire’s tread groove with Lincoln’s head upside down and facing you. If his head remains visible, you need to replace your tires.
